I've spent my career watching this industry build people up and spit them out. As Vice President of the Career and Internship Services department at a New York City fashion school, I sit across from students every day who have done everything right and still can't figure out why nothing is moving. The ones who break through aren't always the most connected or the most polished. They're the ones who learn how to position what they have, stay thick-skinned when the rejections come, and keep moving when it would be easier to quit.
